I tell you these cats are going to be the death of me. After getting through the death of my Fat Fuzzy and settling down with the new kitten, I know have a problem with my big guy Macy. Calcium oxalate crystals.

Long story short the vet says he has to be on a CD diet but he will not touch it for the life of me and it has to be bad since the kitten goes up to it and tries to bury it.

Any ideas on any other type of wet food I can give him that he might eat? It even harder because he loves dry food and I have to take that away from him.

I was going to suggest some cheese mixed in or anything that he really likes, that was what we used to tell clients when I worked at the vet clinic, and then gradually wean out the good stuff.
You can do that with regular wet food that he will eat also add a little bit of the CD to wet food he likes then gradually put in more CD and less regular food until you get him eating all CD, but you have to do it slow and be tricky. LOL

we have a friend whose dog wont eat anything without Ketchup on it. How wierd is that? I thought they were fulla shit and i dog sat him once and put his bowl of food on the floor and left. Came back later to let him out and he was sitting by the frigerator. Food still in bowl. I got the ketchup out and he went crazy dancin around his bowl. lol

I would recommend mixing it. Cats are picky eaters and hard to fool. And when you switch food without mixing it, it can cause diarrhea and, let's just say, "Yuck"

Sherry would know best but I would think mixing it for a time would sure be better than not and its hard to switch food anyway without mixing for awhile.

You should be able to mix the cd with some of his regular food. Mixing it and gradually changing over to all cd helps your cat get use to the cd diet. And not upset his stomach. Just be sure he drinks plenty of water. Making a pet "hold out" until he has no choice but to eat it can cause dehydration and thats not good for a cat with kidney problems.

and thats it Connie, if a cat doesn't eat within 72 hours they can develop fatty liver disease, which is deadly and usually requires force feeding until they want to eat on their own again. I am just trying really hard to get him to eat the right stuff so he doesn't get that plus get rid of the crystals. Some of the cat forums have been helpful but these people are so cat food savy that I get confused on it.

I would think they have an alternative method for those pets who do refuse to eat the CD diet. Cat's can be VERY STUBBORN, to the point they can and do make themselves ill refusing to do what's best for them...including eating. I'm not so convinced the cat will eat if there's no choice...some cats believe they do have a choice, and it's called not eating, regardless of starving themselves.

CD Diet is ummmmmm lets see its a prescription diet from Hills that lowers the PH in the cat so the crystals don't form I guess. My cats hate it. Sonny hates it so much he tries to cover it with the rug, so basically he is telling me its shit lol. Brenda or Sherry I was wondering if I could mix just a tiny bit of his old wet food with the CD, will that be okey?

Ask your vet if they have Epakitin powder. Its a supplement you sprinkle on their food. We recommend it to our clients whose cats refuse to eat the cd diet. Seems to work quiet well. Some use it on regular food but if you vet wants your cat on all cd, it can be used on it as well. Hope it helps.
