We are not sure how far back its history goes. However, in searching City Records I found an old hand drawn plat map noting the Property as "Rainbow Ranch" dated 1904. Most folks think it became a club open to the public around 1948 and it's name was "Rainbow Ranch". In the Mid 70's it became "The Joint in the Woods" it was the rockers Rock Bar. It was frequented by Molly Hatchett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Van Zant Brothers, Tim Curry, Chuck Berry, David Johannson, Henry Paul, Joan Jett, Edgar Winter, Allman Brothers, Steppenwolf, Thorogood, Muddy Waters, Stevie Ray Vaughn and I could go on and on. This is a place where Local Talent could meet up with the Who's Who in Rock and Roll. You never knew who would be jamming there especially after Midnight or who you would find having a drink at the bar. local rock stations would broadcast Live from "The Joint". It's Legal Person Capacity is about 700 people, however, on Big Headliner nights we could pack 1200 people standing room only. All other venues of its type in Central Florida have fallen to the wrecking ball. I've not yet gotten inside but records show it was a business up to 2006 so it should have been upgraded structurally for safety. However there have been no remodeling Building Permits to date. So it should be somewhat original inside. It ain't nothing fancy like "Hard Rock Cafe" all Yuppified, but its in keeping with the nature and heart of where "Southern Rock" was born "Grassroots".
