Kid Rock is deserving of Walk of Fame
To the Editor:
Congratulations to Kid Rock on his induction into the Music City Walk of Fame. Charlie Daniels said it best regarding Rock’s induction: “I think it shows great diversity.”
While Nashville actively seeks diversity, one shouldn’t cherry-pick which type of diversity is welcome and another is not.
After all, Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix are recipients of country music awards.
Just what has Rock contributed to country music? Kid Rock, as a CMA nominee, and Jamey Johnson performed a duet at the CMA Awards. He’s collaborated with Willie Nelson, Kellie Pickler and Sheryl Crow, to name a few. And one of his earliest influences was Hank Williams.
When Jack White can work with Loretta Lynn and produce awards, diversity is at its best. Robert Plant isn’t a known country music maker, yet he and Allison Krauss won awards for their creative work together. Another example is the Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan sessions.
Diversity comes in all stripes and forms, and with Kid Rock’s Music City Walk of Fame award, Nashville’s creative crowd has shown they embrace them all.
